Red jasper gem; both sides flat and transverse oval. (Shape 8–9). Edge on B slightly chipped above the inscription.
Acquired through the antiquities trade in Rome.
Side A: Sarapis is enthroned on the left, clad in a long mantle, his head crowned with the modius. He supports a tall sceptre in his right hand. Three-headed Cerberus sits in front of his throne, facing the standing figure of Eros in the centre, who leans on an inverted torch (Brandt: club). The scene is closed on the right with the winged figure of Nemesis in a long dress, her right hand lifting her clothes. Small wheel at her feet.
Side B: Three lines of Greek inscription: πιρβοησ|ροοδυε|μεμνησο → unidentified voces.
