Bronze amuletic medallion: Lion, Sun and Moon, Greek text (A) angel Araaph attacking a demon, Greek text (B)
Bronze amuletic circular medallion with significant wear; at the top, a perforated hole as a means of suspension.
Side A: In the upper register, at the centre, an oval, segmented object with a cross on top, likely representing the Golgotha. To its left and right, traces of two busts that can be safely identified as the Sun and the Moon, based on comparison with the same visual design on related amuletic medallions. Below: ιαω → Ἰάω. ‘Iao’. Beneath it, a roaring lion; beneath the animal, a snake. Greek text around the edge, prefaced with a cross: σφραγισσολομονοσβοηθιτουφοροντη → σφραγὶς Σολομ{ο}<ῶ>νος, βοήθι τ{ου}<ῷ> φορο<ῦ>ντ{η}<ι>. ‘Seal of Solomon, help the wearer [of this amulet]!’. The ου in του is written as a ligature.
Side B: To the right, an angel (textually identified as Araaph) holding a long, unidentified object that touches a cross-terminated spear or staff. On his left, traces of another figure with only the lower part of its body engraved. Further to the left, an unidentified figure with arms raised; on its left, a large charaktêr in the shape of the Latin letter N with circular finials. Below, a large six-pointed star. Around the edge, flanked by two crosses, a Greek text: φευγεμεμισμενιδιυκισεαγγελοσαρααφ → φεῦγε, μεμισ<ι>μένι, διώκι σε <ὁ> ἄγγελος Ἀραάφ. ‘Flee, Hated One, angel Araaph is pursuing you!’
