Red jasper gem; side A upright oval, side B transverse oval, both faces flat.  (Shape 8–9). Chipped at the top left; minor damage to the inscription on side B.

Side A: Lizard viewed from above, crawling to top. Above, crescent moon pointing to bottom.
Side B: Two lines of Greek inscription: κανθε|σουλε → κανθὲ σ' οὔλε. 'Eye, be healthy!' (The interpretation of 'σ' is uncertain. However, the inscription including 'σ' seems to appear more frequently on magical gems of the type.)

Commentary
• Ch. A. Faraone 2025. Fairly common amulet for eye disease, with one important difference: the medium is red jasper, instead of the usual mottled green and yellow jasper, which seems to have been chosen to imitate the skin of a green lizard; see Ch. A. Faraone: The Transformation of Greek Amulets in Roman Imperial Times (Philadelphia, 2018), 99–100.
