Gem design: Anguipes (A) Greek inscription (B)
Both faces of the represented gemstone are upright oval; the stone is shown mounted in a ring, with the planetary symbols of Mars and Venus incised on the bridge, on the two sides of the stone. "Magnetite." The ring itself is not represented in Montfaucon 1719.
Side A: Cock-headed Anguipes in armour, frontal view, head turned in profile to the left. There is a whip in the raised left hand of the figure, and a round shield in the right hand, the porpax is visible. There are seven six-pointed stars around the figure in the free field, six of them in the top left section, and one above the left foot. Three horizontal notches appear to the right of the figure's torso, and the letter γ to the left. Greek letters below the feet of the Anguipes (not shown in Montfaucon): ιλλ → variant of Ἰάω? (S. Michel).
Side B: Greek inscription in four lines: γλ|ιχιλ|κγχ|σ → unidentified voces.
An orange carnelian gem (EA56061) now in the British Museum was probably created following the design in Chifletius.
